The Story Behind PPE Kids
PPE Kids was born from two lives shaped by hardship, perseverance, faith, and a calling to protect children with courage and clarity. Our founders, Sonni Wilson and Bob Wilson, bring together experiences, expertise, and spiritual conviction that cannot be manufactured or replicated. Their story is the foundation of this mission—and the reason PPE Kids exists today.

Meet Sonni Wilson
Survivor. Advocate. Architect of Prevention.

Sonni is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse whose life has been defined not by what happened to her, but by the strength, resilience, and purpose that grew from it. What could have silenced her instead became a force that fuels one of the most innovative prevention organizations in the country.
She is the author of Behind the Smile: Understanding, Identifying & Preventing Child Sexual Abuse—a groundbreaking training that demystifies grooming, equips adults to recognize red flags early, and provides clear, trauma-informed guidance for responding to disclosures. Written in a compassionate, conversational style, Behind the Smile bridges academic insight with real-world application, making prevention understandable for every parent, educator, pastor, and caregiver.

With over 20 years of HR compliance leadership, Sonni understands how organizations operate, where they fall short, and what systems must change to protect children. She holds specialized certification in Trauma & Resilience from Florida State University, professional training as a Darkness to Light Facilitator, and deep expertise in organizational safety, policy design, and adult learning.

Her work is informed by lived experience and sharpened by professional skill:
-
She knows what survivors need—and what children deserve.
-
She understands how grooming hides in plain sight.
-
She recognizes how institutional failures occur.
-
She builds prevention systems that close those gaps with clarity and compassion.
Sonni’s leadership shapes every element of PPE Kids, from the grooming curriculum to organizational audits to trauma-informed messaging. Her teaching is direct yet empathetic, evidence-based yet human, making prevention accessible for every parent, every pastor, every educator, and every community.
Her mission is deeply personal:
To build the prevention framework she needed as a child but never received.

Meet Bob Wilson
Pastor at Heart. Creator by Design. Protector by Calling.

Before the hospital operations leadership, before the technology architecture, before the creative media work—Bob spent nearly a decade as an ordained Youth Pastor and Worship Leader, shepherding young people and their families with compassion, discipleship, and spiritual responsibility. This shaped the lens through which he sees every child and every safeguarding decision.

Bob’s pastoral background taught him to:

-
Guide teens through emotional and spiritual challenges

-
Counsel parents with clarity and humility

-
Create safe environments where children felt seen, valued, and known

-
Lead with empathy, presence, and unwavering commitment

This foundation is strengthened by Bob’s service as a U.S. Army Infantry soldier, where he learned discipline, focus, situational awareness, and a protector’s mindset. That combination—pastor + protector—is rare in the prevention field.
His professional strengths complete the picture:
Creative Multimedia Storytelling - Bob brings Lumi and the PPE Kids media universe to life—crafting animation, scripts, visuals, and storylines that help children understand safety in ways they can absorb and enjoy.
Operations & Technology Architecture - From health system operations to AWS architecture to secure identity verification through LLDSS, Bob designs the systems that keep PPE Kids modern, safe, and scalable.
He is a builder in every sense of the word—of media, technology, systems, strategy, and hope. His unique combination of ministry, discipline, creativity, and operational leadership gives PPE Kids a capability no other organization possesses: prevention shaped by pastoral care, strengthened by military discipline, and delivered through compelling, child-centered media.

A Calling, Not a Career
Together, Sonni and Bob have sacrificed financially, professionally, and personally to build PPE Kids from the ground up—self-funding its early years, working long nights, and pouring every available resource into the mission.
They did not build PPE Kids because it was easy.
They built it because the calling would not let them walk away.
Their combined strengths create a prevention model the field has never seen:
-
Survivor insight + organizational compliance
-
Trauma-informed leadership + multimedia storytelling
-
HR policy precision + military discipline
-
Creative innovation + technical security
-
Personal experience + professional expertise
This is why PPE Kids feels different.
It is different.

The Heart of PPE Kids
Every training, every video, every policy, every background check is shaped by one driving belief:
“Every child deserves to be safe—and prevention must become a culture, not a reaction.”
Sonni and Bob are building more than a nonprofit.
They are building a movement—one that serves families, strengthens institutions, and gives children the tools and voice they deserve.

Their authenticity is not branding.
It is the foundation.

Their story is not a footnote.
It is the engine.

And their purpose is not a profession.
It is a calling.
