The Child Safety Pledge
Six commitments every adult can make to protect the children in their care. Read it, sign it, and share it with your team.
As a dedicated steward of children’s safety, I pledge to take an active role in protecting every child’s right to a secure, supportive, and nurturing environment. Grounded in the PPE Kids 4 Pillars of Protection, I commit to the following:
- 1
Protect
I pledge to protect children by remaining vigilant and proactive, recognizing signs of abuse, and responding with urgency and care. I will create environments where children feel safe, heard, and respected.
- 2
Prevent
I pledge to prevent child sexual abuse by educating myself and others on best practices, including safe boundaries, effective policies, and informed supervision. I will prioritize awareness and understanding to eliminate risks before they arise.
- 3
Empower
I pledge to empower children to understand their rights, trust their instincts, and speak up when they feel uncomfortable. I will listen actively, provide support, and foster self-confidence in every child.
- 4
Act Responsibly
I pledge to be a trusted advocate and responder, promptly reporting any concerns or disclosures of abuse to the appropriate authorities. I will always honor confidentiality while upholding my duty to protect.
- 5
Educate Continuously
I pledge to stay informed on the latest practices in child protection and commit to ongoing education. I will actively support and participate in community awareness initiatives, understanding that protecting children is a shared responsibility.
- 6
Promote Respect and Compassion
I pledge to treat every child with respect and compassion, valuing their perspectives and feelings. I will lead by example, showing kindness and understanding in all interactions to create spaces where children feel valued and supported.
Through this pledge, I dedicate myself to being a steadfast steward of children, committed to creating a future where every child grows up in a world free from abuse and filled with trust, safety, and hope.
Ways to use the pledge
- Organizations: have every staff member and volunteer sign it at onboarding, and post it where families can see it.
- Families: sign it together and talk about what each promise looks like at home.
- Churches and youth programs: read it aloud at a volunteer commissioning or training kickoff.
